Soweto

Soweto — South West Townships — grew under apartheid and became a crucible of resistance. Vilakazi Street is often noted as the only street to have been home to two Nobel Peace Prize laureates, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu.

Today, guided tours and bicycle rides link Mandela House, the Hector Pieterson Memorial commemorating the 1976 uprising, and a lively scene of shisa nyama grills and music.
