November to March (summer) — climb early, before the 'tablecloth' cloud rolls over the summit
Rising more than a kilometre above Cape Town, Table Mountain is the city's defining landmark and was named one of the New7Wonders of Nature in 2012. A rotating aerial cableway carries visitors to the summit for sweeping views over the city bowl and two oceans.
The mountain is protected within Table Mountain National Park, itself part of the Cape Floral Region — one of the planet's richest concentrations of plant life. Hikers can walk up via the steep Platteklip Gorge; everyone should keep an eye on the weather, as the famous "tablecloth" of cloud can settle quickly.
