Addo began in 1931 to protect a handful of surviving elephants; today it is one of South Africa's great conservation successes, home to hundreds of them. It is malaria-free — a big draw for families — and reachable in under an hour from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
Uniquely, its boundaries stretch to the coast and Algoa Bay's marine reserve, giving Addo the "Big Seven": the Big Five plus the southern right whale and great white shark.
